A New German Translation of the Treaty
Between Denmark and Sweden

The Peace of Kiel of January 14, 1814 forced Denmark onto the side of Sweden and England, its new treaty partners, and into the alliance against Napoleon. Moreover, it ended the personal union that had bound Norway to Denmark and decided and regulated Denmark’s cession of the kingdom of Norway to Sweden. The exhibition and book concentrate on the part of the treaty pertaining to Sweden and Denmark.

For the two-hundredth anniversary of the Peace of Kiel, the text of the treaty has been translated from its original French into German and been supplied with subheadings by Johannes Rosenplänter. The new translation is based on an original produced by the printer Jean Frederic Schutz of Copenhagen in 1814.
